I would appreciate suggestions on 3rd party solutions! I’ve felt forced to referenced Photos libraries because the opacity of the file system made it such a PITA to get access to my images for various purposes that are easy when I control the files, and a frustratingly slow exercise when I have to rely solely on Photos.app’s preferred ways to access/export files. Meanwhile, many users like me are seeking solutions. We want to add support for the Photos library in the future, however, at this time there is no clear ETA on when that will happen. “įlickr is aware of the problem. This did not include a fix for the Photos Library support, as this issue is more complicated and still requires work.

We recently released a new version of our Mac Uploadr for members on Big Sur. “When Catalina OS was rolled out, Apple redesigned the Photos Library database entirely which made it incompatible with our Mac Uploadr.

It is not nearly as user-friendly as the older uploader that integrated with iPhoto, which allowed me to upload from iPhoto and control privacy, albums, groups at the moment of upload, and organize the order in which they upload and thus how they appear in my photostream and my albums this current uploader requires me to separately: export to a 'monitored' folder from which they are uploaded in a sort order that I cannot manipulate, presumably by date or filename, not useful when you want to mix things up then use Flickr's organizer separately to organize the albums and groups and privacy settings, and this is not as easy as working with iPhoto. OK, I have verified that the current version does not upload from Photos.app, as discussed in what I linked in my previous post, and it requires exporting first from Photos.app to another folder, but Photos.app does export photos with metadata that now includes titles and descriptions and tags and this does transfer over to Flickr.

Sometimes the right answer is not the Apple app. This gives the Apple ecosystem a solid range of light, easy to use apps while also leaving space for a thriving third party market, which is necessary for the development and growth of the ecosystem. Want to layout a doctoral thesis? You'll want a more powerful app: Word, Mellel.

With a couple of notable exceptions (the Final Cut and Logic suites), all Apple's software is 'good-for-most-light-use'. Don't confuse the Apple Ecosystem with Apple-made software. That's not all it does, of course, but that's its target user base. Photos is a giveaway app that's quite handy for iPhone shooters.

There are others and they all have two things in common: they're all considerably better than Photos with a referenced library and they're all considerably more developed than Aperture, having had six plus more years of development. But It's by no means the only one in this space: CaptureOne, On One Photo Raw, Mylio, Exposure to name but four. And it has now far exceeded Aperture both as a manager and as a raw processor. I've no idea why you consider LR a 'buggy monster', but I'm in it most days and have found no issues that would lead me to describe it as anything other than an entirely competent app with an unfortunately modal interface.
